As part of Hershey Before Hershey, a survey was conducted at Hershey High School. This survey would give historical information such as; ancestors that lived in Derry Township in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, cemetery records in Derry Township, Direct Tax 1798 Info, and Warrantee Map Info. about the name of the person. Both staff and students volunteered to fill out a slip of paper which asked for their name, address in Derry Township, and other family names they would like to know about. Once a slip was filled out it continued on its journey and was added into a document. The name was then looked up in the 18th, 19th, and 20th century ancestor lists. After this process was completed, the name was searched in cemetery records, direct tax information, and warrantee map information. Next, all the information on a single document. The final step was to place a Warrantee Map plot and a map of nearby historical sites on the document. The document was then delivered to the volunteer.
